  • 1 ¼ cup flour
  • 1 ½ tsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp baking soda
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ¼ cup shortening
  • ¼ cup buttermilk
  • ¼ cup maple syrup
  • ¼ cup finely chopped pecans
  • 1 tbsp milk
  • extra cinnamon and sugar for dusting

Preheat oven to 400°. In a large bowl, mix together flour, baking powder, baking soda, sugar, cinnamon and salt. Cut in shortening until mixture

resembles course meal.

Stir in buttermilk and maple syrup until all ingredients are moistened. Stir in pecans.

Turn out dough onto well floured surface. With floured hands, pat dough into a 9-inch square. Cut 2" round biscuits. Gather scraps, repeat until dough is used up.

Transfer biscuits to an ungreased baking sheet. Brush tops with milk and dust with extra sugar and cinnamon.

Bake for 12-15 minutes. Serve warm (with maple syrup drizzled over them!).
